If your heat is on but the furnace is only blowing cool air there is a good chance you have a pilot light that is out.
The water heater pilot light is a small flame that ignites the gas burner on your water heater.
You can usually replace a thermocouple for minimal cost and in less than an hour.
When your attic gets hot and there is bad or no circulation according to charles law the pressure in your attic increases.
So if you have no circulation in a hot attic you can definitely snuff out the pilot flame.
You ll get your hot.
If the pilot doesn t relight if it goes out right after lighting or if the pilot light keeps going out by far the most common cause is a bad thermocouple.
First put some weatherstrip on the basement door and maybe a threshold at the bottom.
If it gets hot enough it can increase high enough that it can suffocate the pilot flame.
